I received my degree in physical therapy from California State University of Long Beach and am board-certified by the State of California. Pelvic Rehabilitation has been the focus of my practice for the last 9 years. My interest in pelvic muscle dysfunction started in 1995 while training for the Honolulu Marathon with the realization that incontinence was prevalent among female athletes. I have expanded my expertise through mentoring, continuing education, clinical experience and collaboration with physicians in California and Hawaii. My work now includes treatment of pain and dysfunction throughout the pelvic muscles and girdle in men and women throughout the life span.
I have developed and implemented pelvic rehab programs in Hawaii and here on the Monterey Peninsula and opened my own practice in October of 2006. My guiding phrase in opening this practice is "smaller environment, focus on my craft" as well as removing the barriers to receiving the treatment needed. This private practice setting allows me to spend the time required to address the needs of each patient.
I am a member of the International Pelvic Pain Society, IC-net, Endometriosis Society and have had my application accepted by the Pelvic Pain Institute for advanced certification as a pelvic rehab specialist. I am also pursueing the certification being offered by the APTA in pelvic rehab.
I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals,
Julie Tanaka, PT
